Midwestern State senior quarterback Shavodrick Beaver highlighted an offensive explosion to lead Maroon to a 37-26 win over Gold in MSU's Annual Spring Game at Memorial Stadium.

Beaver burst untouched for a 42-yard score to kickstart the Maroon squad to 392 yards of total offense.

The Wichita Falls Rider High product who transferred from Tulsa prior to last season connected on 12-of-18 pass for 242 yards and a pair of touchdowns including three strikes to another former Rider High standout -- junior tight end Mark Strange -- which was good for 148 yards.

Beaver hit Strange in stride for an 80-yard connection on third-and-10 from the Maroon 3-yard line after the Gold squad was stopped on a goal line stand highlighted by the defensive play of Daniel Laudermilk and Travis Stephens who stoned MSU starter Keidrick Jackson on consecutive attempts which would have given the Gold its first lead of the game.

Two plays later Beaver hit Peter Smith on a swing pass for an 18-yard TD connection to give Maroon a comfortable 11-point edge at 37-26 with 2:54 to play.

The Gold team had plenty of standouts of its own rolling up 425 yards of total offense including 251 on the ground.

Redshirt freshman Je'Mikal Morrow led the way with 124 yards on eight carries with scoring runs of 11 and 12 yards while also bursting for a game-long gain of 60 in the second quarter.

Senior running back Keidrick Jackson added 73 yards on 11 carries including a 25-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Jacorey McQueen also stood out for Gold completing 8-of-16 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown in the second half after going 0-for-3 in the opening half.

Redshirt freshman receiver Statron Jones had four catches for 82 yards to pace the Gold receiving corps.

Senior kicker Greg Saladino was a perfect 6-of-6 on his point-after tries and booted a 50-yard field goal for the Maroon squad in the third quarter.

Senior defensive back Dayvyon Henry had 10 tackles to lead the Gold team while Stephens made seven stops with a sack to pace the Maroon squad.
