Jake Reed - KAUZ-TV: Newschannel 6 Now | Wichita Falls, TX

Jake Reed

Jake Reed joined the Skywarn 6 Weather team in April of 2013. He is a 2012 Summa Cum Laude graduate of the Mississippi State University Broadcast Meteorology Program. Jake is thrilled to be working in a severe weather market, and looks forward to bringing his passion and knowledge of severe weather to Texoma.

In fact, Jake's first day on the air included more than five hours of severe weather coverage, where large hail and several tornadoes were reported across parts of Texoma. Experiencing the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the historic, generational April 2011 tornado outbreak in Mississippi has given Jake firsthand experience with how the weather can affect peoples' lives and their livelihood.

Jake was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, and most recently worked as a Meteorologist and News Producer for the #1 station in Mississippi: WLBT-TV. He has also done on-air work for WAPT-TV in Jackson, MS and WCBI-TV in Columbus, MS. Jake was awarded 2nd best weathercast in the state of Mississippi by the Associated Press in the large market division in 2013 for his on-air work at WLBT.

During his time at Mississippi State, Jake took specialty classes in Severe weather forecasting, Winter weather forecasting and tropical meteorology and he is confident these skills will help him forecast in such a dynamic and sometimes unpredictable place like Texoma.

Outside of weather, Jake loves spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He also enjoys spending time with animals, studying history, geography and math, and reading. He is also a huge country music lover and likes keeping up with the latest in current events. Public speaking is also a passion of Jake's. He hopes during his time in Texoma, he is able to share his knowledge and passion for weather with others and help others understand to respect mother nature, rather than fear it.

You can contact Jake anytime by emailing him at jreed@kauz.com.
