Iowa Park's Martin to Play College Tennis

Today another Iowa Park High School senior signed to play his sport at the next level.

Curtis Martin signed to play college tennis at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas.

The NCAA Division III Yellowjackets are a member of the American Southwest Conference.

Martin's coach calls him one of the hardest-working kids he's ever seen, marveling at how he's worked to support himself and pay for tennis camps.

Martin said tennis has taught him a lot in life.

"Tennis is a very mental sport, and so just keeping my cool in a hard situation," he said. "Say I'm down 1-5 in a set; I have to be able to keep my cool to be able to come back that set.

"And that applies to life too. Something happens, and any day you have to have problem-solving skills. That's what tennis has taught me the most."

Martin said he's been playing tennis all four years of high school, and the chance to keep his on-court career going was really a dream come true.

"I really love tennis, it's a great sport," Martin said. "If I could go pro in it, I would absolutely love to. I'm just really excited to go be with a team that I know I'm going to be happy there."
