The Wichita Falls Police Department issued fewer seatbelt citations during this year's Click It or Ticket campaign compared to last year.
The WFPD released numbers Friday. The report showed officers wrote 277 tickets during the campaign's enforcement period (May 20-June 2). During the same campaign last year, the WFPD wrote 286 tickets.
"You know, the think is that we have people out there who are still not wearing seatbelts," said Officer Jeff Hughes. "We know statistically that child restraints and seatbelts save lives. That's a proven fact. It can Escalate injuries by not wearing a seatbelt, and if you are wearing a restraint, it could cut your injuries down by 50 percent."
The WFPD dedicated nearly 300 man hours and nearly 2,000 miles to the Click It or Ticket campaign.
