Vernon's Martin to Coach Burk Baseball

Second-year Vernon Baseball coach will be the next head coach at his alma mater, Burkburnett.

Martin, a 1992 BHS graduate, will replace long-time coach Mike Leach, who announced his retirement two weeks ago.

In his first year at Vernon, Martin was named District 6-3A Coach of the Year.

He was also offensive coordinator for the Lions' football team, which had a resurgent 9-3 season and averaged 39.8 points per game. He will join the Bulldogs' football coaching staff as well.

"We are very excited about Grant becoming our head baseball coach and assisting with our football staff," said Burkburnett AD Danny Nix. "We know he will do a terrific job and bring a great enthusiasm to our baseball team."

Before Vernon, Martin coached at 3A baseball power Abilene Wylie, where his teams reached three state championship games and two more regional finals. He also was an assistant coach on Wylie's 2004 State Champion football team.

Martin was a 2013 inductee to the Burkburnett Blacksox Hall of Fame.
