Waterborne Disease

The Wichita Falls and Wichita County Public Health District are warning residents about a potentially deadly waterborne disease.

Lake Amoeba lives in natural bodies of water and can get into children's sinuses.

Symptoms include:

  • Headache
  • Fever
  • Nausea
  • Stiff Neck
  • Disorientation
  • Hallucinations
  • Seizures

The Disease is preventable.  Precautions include, never going into warm stagnant waters and holding your nose or wearing nose plugs while in  the water.

Newchannel 6 Reporter Tanya De Jesus will have a more in depth look at the disease Tuesday night at 5:00p.m.

    Since the 1950's the Wichita County Mounted Patrol Rodeo brought in crowds from all across Texoma. After unexpectedly shutting down in 2011 due to financial issues it is coming back and better than ever. Former Steer Wrestling World Champion Mickey Gee told me there is nothing better than a Texas rodeo. The Wichita county native spent many years attending the WCMP Rodeo with his father and knew when the gates closed in 2011 he had to do something to bring it back.
