Woman Arrested for Stealing an Air Conditioning Unit

Yesterday we brought you a story about how Camp Fire USA's air conditioning unit was stolen for a second time and last night it was stolen again. But this time a woman was arrested in connection with the theft.

61 year-old Karen Bayless was arrested Friday morning for theft of less than twenty thousand dollars copper and brass.

Sergeant John Spragins of the Wichita Falls Police Department said "The person who was arrested was in possession of air conditioning parts of the business here at twenty four fourteen ninth street."

That is the same address as Camp Fire. But those were not the only air conditioning parts found in Bayless' possession.

Sergeant Spragins said additional air conditioning parts were found in her possession, which are believed to be stolen.

Police have interviewed other people but no other arrests have been made. Sergeant Spragins also said that additional charges may be filed.

People steal air conditioning units to make money off of the copper and brass.

Since this was the third time Camp Fire has had its air conditioning unit stolen. They are now going to take extra precautions.

President of Camp Fire Bob Hampton said "We've got to do something that are somewhat out of our character of doing. You know razor wire box of some sort that cannot be broken in. This last situation has reminded us of strange times in this old country."

Sergeant Spragins said this is still an ongoing investigation. We will continue to update you on the latest as the investigation unfolds. If anyone has additional information, please call Crime Stoppers at (940)-322-9888.
