Long Awaited Rain

The sweet sound of rain is something Texomans have been longing to hear. Now, the area is seeing some much needed rain in the forecast through at least Monday.

Texoma residents were overjoyed Sunday morning when they woke up to see dark clouds in the sky.

"I love it. I love it, it's amazing!" said Texoma resident Vanessa Gonzales.

Others like Gloria Griffin is so excited about the rain that she said she "may go out for a long walk in the rain".

A low pressure system is moving through the area producing up to 4 inches of rain in some places. For farmer Fred Dwyer, getting this much needed precipitation is crucial for growing his crops and keeping his business afloat.

"It's about as important as anything we could get. We're in such terrible shape with water and drinking water. We have acres and acres of pasture that's pretty ruined" Dwyer said.

Due to the severe drought conditions Texoma has been facing for the last few years, every little drop counts. The rain could fill nearby lakes, residents would be able to have drinking water and even water the grass.

In regards to the drought the odds are not in Texoma's favor. However, Dwyer remains resilient that conditions will eventually change.

"We've got to be hopeful. We need all the rain we can get!" he said.

Dwyer hopes he will be able to produce better quality wheat at his next harvest. He says all he needs is enough rain fall by September.

Currently, most of Texoma is in at least a severe drought.
