Massive Police Search For Suspect That Didn't Exist

Posted: Updated:

Wichita Falls police say a man who sparked a manhunt last month along Reilly Road and Wellington Lane, is now accused of making the whole thing up.
Police tell Newschannel 6, 23-year-old Kelly Lloyd Wells called authorities on August 27th to report that he'd picked up an Hispanic man who was hitchhiking and that the man shot him.
Wells drove himself to the emergency room and was treated for a gunshot wound.
He later said he had accidentally shot himself.
An arrest warrant for False Report was issued and Wells turned himself in.
His bond was set at $5,000.
