Wildcats Plow Through Blizzard, Move to 4-0-0

Wichita Falls (4-0-0) continued its hot start to the season on Thursday, scoring early and often to beat the Brookings Blizzard (0-2-0), 7-1.

Nick Farmer and Rudy Junda each scored a pair of goals, Max Reisinger had a goal and an assist and Tyler Ledford and Evan Okeley each picked up a pair of assists.

Sam Piazza opened the scoring for the Wildcats in the first period. Jake Townsend's pass through the middle found Reisinger streaking ahead for a breakaway. His initial effort was saved into the corner, but he followed up the play and threw a centering feed out in front for Piazza to tuck home for his second goal of the year.

A few minutes later, Wichita Falls doubled its lead on a four-on-three power play. Ledford threaded a pass from behind the net to Farmer in the high slot. Farmer had time to pick his spot and sniped the top left corner to make it 2-0.

In the second, the Wildcats picked up right where they left off. Kyle Bauman fed a pass to Farmer above the left faceoff circle after a strong individual effort below the goal line to keep possession of the puck. Farmer again had time to pick his spot, and fired a wrister that snuck
through traffic and over the glove of Miguel Genest to make it 3-0.

The Blizzard would pull a goal back after Nick DeCenzo found the back of the net on a power play, but that was all the offense they would muster. Moments later, Junda restored the three-goal advantage with a shot from the right faceoff circle that trickled through the paraphernalia of Genest to make it 4-1.

The third period saw more of the same from Wichita Falls. After killing off an extended two-man advantage for Brookings, the Wildcats scored three goals in a span of five minutes.

First, Josh Haverstrom stashed home a loose puck in front of the net after Staub pushed a shot towards the crease. Reisinger picked up his goal seconds later, going bar-down on a one-timer after a good entry play by newcomer Hogan Davidson and Nick Farmer. Junda completed the scoring on the power play at 16:38 of the third, putting a shot under the bar from in close to make it 7-1.

David Zevnik started in net for the Wildcats, making 25 saves on 26 shots to earn his first win of the season.
