Former Rider teammates Chris Norrie and Connor Curry both advanced in the boys' singles draw Monday at the Wichita Falls ITF Championships, held at Hamilton Park and Weeks Park tennis centers.
Norrie, now a freshman at MSU, defeated Emilio Moreno of Calexico, California 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-3 at Hamilton Park, rallying from a break-filled first set to take the next two sets in a little more straightforward fashion.
He will face Nathan Ponwith of Scottsdale, Arizona Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. at Weeks Park.
Norrie also competed in boys' doubles, but he and his partner Sean Barela fell 6-0, 6-2 to Kamran Khan and Daniel Maese in first-round play.
Curry, who now competes at Austin's Brain Game Tennis Academy, defeated another Californian, German Aragon, 6-0, 6-4 to advance in singles.
He'll face Emil Reinberg of Atlanta, Georgia Tuesday morning, also at 9 a.m., at Hamilton Park.
In doubles play, Curry paired with Spencer Furman of Woodinville, Washington and the two picked up a 6-1, 7-5 win over Taylor Cramer and Kevin Le.
Curry and Furman will face Reinberg and Evan Zhu noon at Weeks Park.
