ITF Tennis: Curry Advances in Singles, Falls in Doubles

Wichita Falls native Connor Curry advanced to the round of 16 Tuesday in the Boys' Singles bracket at the Wichita Falls ITF Championships.

Curry faced 12th-seeded Emil Reinberg in the round of 32, and survived a tight first set for a 7-5, 6-0 win.

Reinberg broke Curry to take a 4-3 lead in the first set, but Curry rallied back in the next game to break back to 4-all, then broke at 5-6 to clinch the set.

He advances to face Kalman Boyd of Ranch Santa Fe, California Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. The match will be at Weeks Park Tennis Center.

Curry's former Rider teammate Chris Norrie bowed out in the second round Tuesday, falling to 5th-seeded Nathan Ponwith 6-1, 6-1.

In Boys' Doubles play, Curry teamed with Spencer Furman for second-round action against Reinberg and Evan Zhu. Curry and Furman won the first set 6-3, but Reinberg and Zhu rallied back to take the second in a tiebreak, 7-4, then won the 10-point match tiebreaker 10-7 to advance.
