First West Nile Case

A Wichita Falls man is in the hospital with West Nile.

Health officials confirmed he is the first person in the city this year to contract the virus.

In addition to the 58-year-old man, two mosquito samples in the Falls have tested positive for the virus.

While the Centers for Disease Control said people older than 50 are most at risk, only about one in 150 who are infected will develop serious illness.

The Environmental Health Division will continue spraying and treating standing water.

It is very important to take precautions and protect yourself.  Remember mosquitos are most active at dusk and dawn.  If possible, drain standing water in your yard and neighborhood.
