Zavala Hispanic Cultural Initiative is getting ready the 2013 Calle Ocho & 1st Annual Dia De Los Muertos Fun Run!
Zavala Hispanic Cultural Initiative was established with a strong commitment to provide the Hispanic community an opportunity to actively participate in the evolution of a greater Wichita Falls. Since its foundation in 2002, Zavala has hosted a wide variety of cultural and educational activities including The Hispanic Leadership Banquet, The Cesar Chavez Banquet, Latin Festivals, Immigration workshops, Calle Ocho Festival, and Las Posadas. In addition, Zavala is partnering with Café Con Leche, promoting a culture of high expectations and the importance of post-secondary education.
On October 5th, 2013, Zavala will host the 2013 Calle Ocho event at the downtown Farmer's Market, corner of 8th and Ohio. The event will feature Latin dishes, music, children's educational activities, games, folklore dancers, mariachi band and the 1st Annual Dia De Los Muertos Fun Run.
Special guests will include our local talent, Jessica Martinez. Proceeds of the event will be dedicated to provide local students with scholarships to attend colleges and universities.
With great pride and dedication, Zavala continues its commitment to preserve the unique cultural gifts of the Hispanic Heritage and to empower the Hispanic community to become fully engaged in overall community opportunities and challenges.
The Zavala Hispanic Cultural Initiative is a Non-Profit organization in Wichita Falls. Some of our goals include, helping the Hispanic population get into leadership roles in the community, and one day to build a cultural center to celebrate our culture.
