Super Stars Bowl

The Special Olympics Texas and the Wichita Falls Nighthawks hosted the inaugural Super Stars Bowl at memorial stadium Saturday.

Seventeen athletes from Special Olympics Texas were given the chance to play flag football alongside players from the Wichita Falls Nighthawks.

Thirteen female special Olympic athletes also were given the chance to join the Nighthawk Cheerleaders to form a cheerleading squad at the game.

Special Olympics Area Director, Mike Strickland said this event is a great way to raise money for the organization.

"We've partnered with the Wichita Falls Nighthawks to put on a flag football game fund raising game to support special Olympics. We are hoping that this can be our signature fund raising event for the year. We hope to raise anywhere between $10,000 to $20,000 on this event," Strickland said.

Special Olympics Texas is a non-profit organization that promotes acceptance and understanding of those with intellectual disabilities.

It provides more that 44,000 children and adults with disabilities to realize their potential, develop physical fitness, and challenge themselves through sporting events.
