MSU Volleyball Sweeps TAMUK on Senior Night

Midwestern State senior Caitlin Wallace put down a match-high nine kills to lead the Mustangs to a 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs improved 16-12 on the season and to 7-9 in league play.

MSU will clinch the No. 5 seed in next week's LSC Postseason Tournament if Tarleton State loses to Angelo State Saturday afternoon in Stephenville.

The Mustangs made it happen on the defensive end Thursday night forcing the Javelinas into 29 attack errors and a negative team hitting percentage paced by a big net game by freshman Sarah Garfield, who recorded six total blocks while Marija Jovanovic, Beatriz Villalba and Michelle Blount added two blocks each.

Midwestern spread the effort on the back row, as well.

Junior libero Casey Fletcher was joined by redshirt freshman Madelyn Johnson and freshman setter Sarah Rosinke with seven digs each.

Villalba and Garfield were also efficient on the attack. They combined for 11 kills and just two errors as the Mustangs finished with a .198 attack percentage.

Midwestern closes the regular Saturday afternoon at Southwestern Oklahoma State. First serve is set for 2 p.m.

Texas A&M-Kingsville dropped to 14-18 and 5-10.

Our Training Camp Road Trip continues in District 5-2A Div. I with the Seymour Panthers. They're coming off a 7-win season, and with 15 returning letterwinners, they're ready for even more success in 2017. Running back David Watson will be the key offensive weapon for the Panthers. He gained almost 1900 total yards a year ago and is a threat to go to the house from anywhere on the field. "It helps out a lot, knowing he can just make plays out of nowhere and help us out," s...
