Abortion Law

The Supreme Court is allowing Texas to continue enforcing controversial abortion restrictions.

On Tuesday the justices rejected an emergency appeal, which was filed by Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics.

The new regulation requires abortion clinic doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.  A third of the abortion clinics in Texas are now closed because of the provision.

The Supreme Court split 5-4. Liberal justices wanted to block the law until the appeals process was finished.
