Breann Schreiber slammed down 20 kills Friday to lead the Windthorst Trojanettes to the Class-A Volleyball state championship game.
They defeated #1-ranked Jewett Leon (46-3) 25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 11-25, 15-8 and will face Round Top-Carmine Saturday at 9 a.m. in the finals. Carmine defeated Lindsay in three close sets in the morning's first semifinal.
Brooke Dillon added 15 kills for Windthorst, while fellow seniors Carli Clifton and Abby Wolf led the defensive effort with 25 and 23 digs, respectively.
Morgan Sigford had 19 kills to lead Leon, as the defending champions rallied from two sets down to force a fifth set before running out of steam.
The Trojanettes will be going for their 14th all-time state volleyball title, and their first since 2008, on Saturday. This is their first trip to the state tournament since that title, their longest tournament drought since their first appearance in 1988.
