Principal Placed on Paid Leave

A Texas Middle School Principal is placed on paid leave after she banned students from speaking Spanish while in class.

A Hempstead School District spokeswoman confirmed Amy Lacey has been placed on leave, while pending investigation of her November 12th announcement on the intercom at Hampstead Middle School.

More than 50-percent of the school enrollment of about 330 students is Hispanic.  A letter was sent by the district to school parents assuring them that neither the district nor any campus has any policy banning speaking Spanish.  The school district spokeswoman said the district is committed to embracing all students of all cultural and diverse backgrounds.
