Last Minute Deliveries

United States Postal Service workers at the Morningside office are helping make sure you get your last minute Christmas letter or packaged present is delivered to your doorstep.
Tens of thousands of letters and packages come through on a daily basis. On Christmas Eve it's a little bit crazier. Morningside Post Office Manager Leanna Allen said once the mail comes in from places like Ft.Worth and Coppell, it's then sorted by mail carriers.
"Carriers are casing their mail. What they do is they put it into a box sequence and then they have it for delivery. They are just getting ready to go deliver Christmas," said Allen.
One of these carriers is Carmen O'hearn. She's been working for the USPS for the last 16 years.
"On an average day," said O'hearn, "you know when it's not Christmas, there's not a whole lot of parcels. On an average day, from the time going into the office, sorting all the mail, getting it out on the street, it's at least 8 and a half hours. But usually longer cause it just depends on the mail volume and the parcels."
Today O'hearn said her mail bag felt a little heavier.
"I deliver Fountain Park and it is a long heavy route so it does get a lot of mail it takes me a long time. I know where each house is and I've been on this route for six years. I know where everything is. It's just the volume of mail on this route." said O'hearn.
O'hearn likes to think she's not only delivering mail, but also the Christmas spirit too.
"I like to consider myself an elf, maybe a Santas' helper," said O'hearn, "you know cause there's only one Santa. There is only one good ole Saint Nick."
For O'hearn, it's truly one of the most wonderful times of the year.
