Business Shooting To Texas

One of the largest producers of gun magazines in the country is relocating to North Central Texas.

Magpul Industries announced Thursday that over the course of the year it will relocate its production, distribution and shipping offices to Wyoming and its headquarters to North Central Texas.

The company’s move stems from the ongoing debate on gun control across the country and the passage of strict gun laws in Colorado.

Newschannel 6 talked with some gun enthusiast at a local gun range about the company’s controversial move.

“Anytime a company, especially a conservative company wants to come to Texas, that’s a good thing,” said Tom Cole, President of the Red River & Rifle Pistol Club in Burkburnett. It’s good thing for the community wherever they relocate at.”

Longtime gun owner, Pat Bitner said he thinks it’s a good move. “Good economic move for the state of Texas and a strategic move for Magpul. They’re not going to make it in Colorado.”

The company is currently located in Erie, Colorado.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) was quick to welcome the company to the Lone Star State. Gov. Perry’s office issued a statement on his website:

"I'm proud that Magpul is the latest employer to join the ranks of companies that call Texas home,” said Gov. Perry.

Local gun owners said they understand why the company decided to relocate here to Texas.

"It just makes sense. Magpul can't sell their product as well in Colorado as well as it can in Texas, because you have more people that are pro-gun in Texas who grew up with guns,” said Cole.

“If I can’t do business here. I will do business somewhere where I can. That’s what this country is all about,” said Bitner.

Newschannel 6 also talked with the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce about the company’s move and they said they reached out to the company in March 2013 about relocating to the city, but never did get a response.

While the company did announce that it will be relocating its headquarters to North Central Texas it did not give an exact location.
