Flu: Breaking Down the Basics

According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, influenza, also known commonly as the flu, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses.  It can cause mild to severe illness and the virus infects the nose throat, and lungs.

If the illness gets serious it can result in hospitalization or death.  Older people, younger people, and those with certain health conditions, are at a high risk for serious flu complications.

The CDC said the best way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated each year.

Signs and Symptoms:
  • Fever or feeling feverish/chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue (feeling very tired)
  • Some people might experience vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common is children that adults.
