Coyote Baseball Pair Sign to Play in College!

Posted: Updated:

A pair of Wichita Falls Coyote baseball players signed to play college ball on Wednesday!

Seniors Zack Murphy and Garron Bates signed in the Coyote fieldhouse foyer.

Murphy is heading to pitch at Midland College, while Bates will play outfield for Division-I Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.

Murphy was the quarterback for the Coyote football team before a couple of shoulder injuries led him to focus on playing baseball.

He told us that decision was one of the best he's ever made, allowing him to get "ahead of the game" in recruiting.

Bates, the stepson of Coyote head coach Rob Johnson, told us he was proud to follow in Johnson's footsteps as a D-I player. Johnson played collegiately at TCU.

"It's exciting for me," Bates said. "Being that only a good, five percent of kids in the high school level that play baseball get to go to college and further their playing career."
