Publisher’s Clearing House Scam

Posted: Updated:
The Wichita Falls Police Department Financial Crimes Unit is reporting they have been seeing an increase of Publisher’s Clearing House scams.

People are receiving calls saying they’ve won money, but in order to get the prize money, they are told they have to buy a Green Dot prepaid card.  Then they are asked to call back to arrange the deposit of the prize money.

When you call the representative back, they tell you to scratch off the gray bar on the back of the prepaid card.  However, this is the activation code for the card and it gives the scammer instant access to the money on the card.

If you get a call like this, you are asked to report it to police at (940) 761-7792.
