Reaching Out For Cloud Seeding Project

Posted: Updated:
With Wichita Falls lakes below the 30-percent mark, Wichita Falls City Leaders are seriously looking into starting a cloud seeding project to force rain.

Public Works Director Russell Schreiber said the price tag on the project is estimated to be $50,000.  However, this price may vary depending on the cost of fuel for the plane and seeding materials.

The city probably won’t be able to cover the full cost, so they are reaching out to other counties who are in the target area.  A workshop was held on Friday where eight counties came to hear more details about the project.  The counties included Archer, Baylor, Clay, Cottle, Foard, Knox, King, and Wilbarger.

Schreiber said, “Most seem to be interested in it.  Now all the counties need to go back and see if they can find some money in their budget to participate in helping us fund it.”

He also said now is the time to take a shot at the project.  He said experts they have spoken to said, the weather is promising this year for it to be successful at this project.
