MSU's Holmes Wins LSC Pitcher of the Week

Midwestern State's Katlyn Holmes garnered Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week honors Tuesday when league officials announced weekly awards.

The freshman from Gunter dealt No. 1-ranked West Texas A&M its first loss of the season Friday night at Mustangs Park.

Holmes limited the Lady Buffs to one earned run on five hits to go along with five strikeouts in MSU to a 6-2 victory.

WT carried an LSC-best .376 team batting average into the series, but was limited to a .205 average by the MSU pitching staff.

The 5-7 right-hander also held Texas-Permian Basin to a pair of unearned runs on six hits Tuesday in Odessa.

For the week, Holmes posted a 2-0 record allowing one earned run on 11 hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in 12 innings of work for a 0.50 ERA.

Angelo State's Morgan Spearman garnered top hitter honors after slugging three home runs and two doubles as the Rambelles took two of three from Tarleton State.

Midwestern State hits the road to face Eastern New Mexico in three-game series this weekend in Portales. The teams play a pair of games Friday at noon and 2 p.m. before closing the set with a single game at noon on Saturday.
