Watch as MSU's Women Learn They Made the NCAAs!

Friday afternoon, the Midwestern State Mustang women will open up the South Central Regional in Canyon!
But, they were not even guaranteed to get into the tournament this year.

Mustangs graduate assistant coach Ashley Rush filmed the team's excited reaction as they learned their fate Sunday night, and gave us permission to show you the video!

"Everyone was just screaming," senior Skyler Warrick said later. "Everyone just so happy, so excited, just jumping up and down, hugging everybody."

The Mustangs were ranked ninth in last week's final Regional rankings, then lost in the second round of the Lone Star Conference tournament.

"There was a lot of parity in our league," said head coach Noel Johnson. "Between Texas Woman's, Fort Lewis and us, it came down to those three for that seventh spot."

Saint Edwards caused more trouble by winning the Heartland Conference tournament, stealing an at-large spot from the field.

The 1-vs-8 matchup was announced first, with host West Texas A&M facing SEU. But that meant the Mustangs would have to wait until the 7th seed, at the very bottom of the bracket, was announced to learn if they'd be in.

"When I saw the eighth seed, I was fired up," Warrick said. "That was the spot that was gonna be either us or it was gonna be Saint Ed's because they won their tournament. And we knew it was going to be one of those, so I was like, 'Maybe we got that seven, maybe we got that seven... we got that seven!' So, I was really excited."

Now it's on to Canyon, just a few hours up the road on the campus of West Texas A&M, where Coach Johnson wants the MSU fan base to be out in full force!

"We need everybody to come out to the First United Bank Center at 2:30 on Friday to cheer us on and cheer for these young ladies because we're excited to play there," Johnson said.

"We're familiar with that place, and we want everybody. We want Maroon and Gold in there. We want a sea of Maroon and Gold."

The Mustang women will get a rematch with the team who eliminated them last season, Colorado Mesa, on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
