Munroe, Piazza Earn League Honors as Wildcats Sweep Weekly Awards

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - After a string of strong performances last week, Wildcats goaltender Chase Munroe was named the South Star of the Week in the North American Hockey League's Easton Divisional Stars of the Week. Defenseman Sam Piazza also earned recognition for his efforts, as he was named the division's second star of the week.

Munroe was named South Division Star of the Week after posting three wins in four games played last week. The Naperville, Ill.-native stopped 54 of 57 shots faced against the Topeka Roadrunners on March 10 and 11 to lead the Wildcats to a sweep on the road. He then followed that effort up with a 30-save performance against the Kenai River Brown Bears on Friday in a 3-1 victory for Wichita Falls.

The first-year netminder finished the week with 97 saves on 104 shots faced, and recorded a 1.75 goals against average and a .933 save percentage over the four contests. This is the second time this year Munroe has been tabbed as the South Division's Star of the Week; he previously earned top weekly honors in November after leading the Wildcats to a sweep over Kenai River.

Piazza garnered Second Star honors after notching four goals and two assists last week, all of which came against Topeka. The defenseman notched a goal and two assists to lead the Wildcats to a come-from-behind, overtime victory over the Roadrunners on March 10, before posting a hat trick the next night as Wichita Falls claimed a 4-1 triumph to complete the two-game sweep.

The Darien, Ill.-native has 10 goals and 24 assists for 34 total points in 54 games played, setting a new single-season record for most points by a Wildcats defenseman.

The Wildcats are next in action on March 21, when they travel to Amarillo to start a two-game series against the Bulls. Video streaming will be available on FASTHockey.com, with an audio-only broadcast accessible via the Wildcats' UStream channel.
