Rider's Garfield Leaving for Elgin - KAUZ-TV: Newschannel 6 Now | Wichita Falls, TX

Rider's Garfield Leaving for Elgin

After four years as the head coach of Rider high school, Jim Garfield has decided it's time to move on.

Garfield, who leaves Rider with the highest winning percentage of any coach in school history (.722), will be the next head coach and athletic director at Elgin high school.

In just four years, he led the Raiders to a 39-15 overall record, including a perfect 4-0 mark against rival Wichita Falls high school, and a playoff berth in each season he spent as head coach of the team.

Before becoming head coach of the Raiders in 2010, Garfield spent seven years as the defensive coordinator with the team under Scott Ponder. During that time, Rider went 57-30 and made six trips to the playoffs.

Garfield takes over at Elgin for Wade Griffin, who won the Austin American Statesman Coach of the Year, after leading the Wildcats to a 12-1 season in 2013. Griffin recently took the head coaching position at Fort Worth Brewer.

There is no word yet on a potential replacement for Garfield, but we'll keep you updated as more information is released!
