Another Wind Farm Coming to Texoma

Baylor and Knox Co. Wind Farm

Texoma is a perfect place for wind farms because it is so windy.  We already have a few and are getting another one.  A $500 million wind farm is going to be put in between Baylor and Knox Counties.

Even though a wind farm has been in the works for years, the construction phase is just underway.

"The construction phase can take anywhere from 9 to about 15 months. There will be in the neighborhood of 150 to 200 people employed to build the facility, said Craig Adair the Assistant Development Manager for Pioneer Green Energy.

Adair said as many positions as possible will be filled by Texomans.  Even though the construction jobs are not permanent, Adair said they will hire 8 to 10 people to operate the wind farm.

The wind farm is definitely going to have an impact on Seymour's economy and many of the residence told Newschannel 6 they think it is going to be a positive one.

"The turbines will cover about a 60 square mile area.  You will roughly see two rows of 300 ft tall wind turbines spinning and producing clean energy," said Adair.

Once the wind farm is complete it will be able to produce enough electricity to power 90,000 homes, and it will be able to do that using hardly any water.

"The old notion of a wind mill does not really capture what these machines can do. They are highly sophisticated.  They adjust their direction depending on where the wind is coming from," said Adair.
