Standardized Testing Begins Next Week

Standardized testing starts next week for Texas Public School students.

Some parents said they want their child to opt out of the tests because of the high stress the testing can cause. 

The Texas Education Agency said there is no place in the Texas Education Code where parents are allowed to have their children opt out of STARR exams.  However, the code doesn’t indicate and penalties for parents that decide to opt their child out of the exams anyways.  Plus, students who take the test and fail will most likely get promoted.  The student will go through a committee and will be promoted to the next level.

Opting out of the standardized test has become a national issue.  Some states like Colorado have a box you can check to opt out of the testing.
