Service Academy Forum

The 13th District’s Annual Service Academy Forum took place Saturday morning at the Region Nine Education Center in Wichita Falls.

U.S. Congressman Mac Thornberry was supposed to host the event, but was unable to make it.  The forum started at 10:00 a.m. and ran until noon.

This free, informational event was directed towards high school students interested in pursuing an education at a United States Service Academy.

“The students are going to be conflicted.  Around the world, there are all kinds of different areas between Syria and Ukraine but yet young men and women are still willing to step forward saying I want to do this and serve, as they have done for centuries” said Lieutenant Jim Gorham of the United States Navy.

All local students of any age, parents and counselors were also invited to attend. Attendees were provided with details on appointment procedures, daily life at the academies and post graduate military commitments as well as got answers to their questions they had.
