Whitaker to Play QB at Friends University

Brennan Whitaker officially signed to play college football Thursday morning in Iowa Park!

Whitaker played a number of positions in his three years at Holliday and his senior season with the Hawks, but he will be under center at the next level, at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas.

The NAIA school posted a solid 8-3 record last season.

Whitaker said Thursday the head coach at Friends reminds him of one of his former coaches.

"The coach at Friends, he's a lot like Coach [Terry] Wolf, and that's why I really like him. He's an old-school guy, he's gonna get in your face and yell at you, but he's going to make you the best you can be."

Not many players, even stars in high school, get to play quarterback in college. Whitaker said he knows he'll have to be a leader on-campus, even as a freshman.

"It takes a lot," Whitaker said. "You really have to push yourself and be one of the hardest workers on the team at all times. Always be at all workouts and be there to lead everyone, help be the best. Always be in the coaches' office, looking at schemes, going over defenses, and just getting better at what I do. Listen to the coach and let him coach me up."
