Child Abuse Awareness Month - KAUZ-TV: Newschannel 6 Now | Wichita Falls, TX

Child Abuse Awareness Month

The Wichita County Commissioner took the time on Monday morning to recognize Child Awareness Month.

Child protective services investigated more that 160 thousand allegation of child abuse or neglect in Texas last year.  156 children died at the hands of their parents or their caregivers.  More than 60,000 children were victims of abuse or neglect.

Judge Woody Gossom said it was important for the county to acknowledge the issue.

“It’s very natural for it to come to us, for us to appoint that.  I’m sure out cities do things to recognize it too,” said Gossom.

On Wednesday Midwestern State University will tie blue ribbons all around campus and The Walk of Knowledge will be lines with shoes and signs giving statistics on child abuse and neglect.
