Deadly Accident Driver Let Go

Posted: Updated:
The man who was behind the wheel of a truck that hit and killed an 11-year-old boy in Wichita County will not face any charges.

Mark Cotterly was driving a truck last summer, when he told police he swerved to miss a pack of dogs in the road.  He ended up hitting and killing 11-year-old Jared Macias.  He was with a friend on a horse on the opposite side of the road.

This past Wednesday a Wichita County grand jury refused to indict Cotterly on any charges related to that accident.  The decision left the boy’s family feeling like victims all over again.

Les Macias, Jared’s father said, “He can shoot my horse and my horse lives and he can go to jail for that.  He can kill my kid and there’s nothing.”

Les Macias said he is working to see if there is anything he can do now to provide some justice for his son’s death.  He said he and his family feel the criminal justice system has failed them.
