Midwestern State junior Derek Oland's and senior Julio Gonzales-Galvan are tied for second place and helped the Mustangs to second as a team after the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Championship at the Ram Rock Course of the Horseshoe Bay Resort.

Oland, a junior from McKinney, Texas/Boyd and Gonzales-Galvan, a senior from Aguascalienta, Mexico toured the par 71, 6,842-yard Ram Rock Course at 3-over-par 74, three strokes behind Texas A&M-Commerce's Marcus Sanna who fired an even-par 71.  The Lions' C.J. Clem is fourth at 4-over 75, with A&M-C's Kason Childress and Mitchell Ray fifth at 5-over 76.

Oland held the lead at 2-under after the front nine, but struggled on the backside with five bogeys, including three of the last four holes.

Gonzales-Galvan suffered a double bogey on the second hole, but alternated with birdies and bogeys until a final bogey at 16 put him at 3-over.

Midwestern also got an 8-over 79 from Jeremy LeGuen, with Brandon Banks adding an 80 and Colton Dorion an 83.

A&M-Commerce, with its four scoring players in the top five and ties in the opening round, grabbed the lead in the stroke play opening round with a 298.  MSU is second at 307, with Cameron third at 312 and West Texas A&M fourth at 319.

The tournament advanced to medal match play for round two, with MSU playing Cameron and A&M-Commerce facing West Texas.  The Mustangs and Aggies were right around the turn, when thunderstorms popped up in the Hill Country and forced a suspension of play.  Cameron was leading MSU 3-2 and A&M-C was ahead of WT 3-2 when play was suspended.

Individually, strokes are being counted for to determine the individual champion during match play, but were not released for the interrupted second round.

The teams will pickup where they stopped on Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m.  The third round will follow with the two winning teams meeting for the LSC Championship and the two losing teams squaring off for third.
