Hirschi's Cody Slater Leaving for Benbrook

Hirschi football coach and athletic coordinator Cody Slater is leaving Wichita Falls after three seasons to start up a new program at Benbrook High School, which opens this fall.

Slater led Hirschi to its first playoff berth since 2006 this past fall, with a 7-4 season. The two prior years, his Huskies finished 2-8 each season.

Slater will coach the Oil Bowl at Memorial Stadium in June.

In March, Rider Head Coach Jim Garfield left to head up the Elgin High School program, leaving Danny Russell as the "dean" of WFISD football coaches, with all of one year as head coach at Wichita Falls High School.
