Growing Concerns

Over 65% of produce is infested with pesticides which could be causing neurological damage among children. That new statistic reveals a growing number due to our nations ever increasing population.

Aaron Bristow, Store Manager at Natural Grocers, says that pesticides are still being used because of money.

“It’s for money,” says Bristow. “Traditional agriculture is looking for the fastest and cheapest ways to develop food.”

According to the Environmental Working Group, one grape can contain as many as 15 different pesticides. They also reported that all nectarines and 99 percent of their apple samples contain at least one trace of pesticide.

Pesticides can also have a serious affect on your health and the environment. Some medical studies link pesticide exposure in connection to Alzheimer's and Parkinson’s disease, autism and endometriosis.

“It’s one of the leading causes of ADHD,” says Bristow. “There’s over a billion gallons of pesticides that are used each year. And all those pesticides that are used go into the soil.”
