Fire Near FM 171 Did Not Reach Homes

40 acres burned Sunday afternoon along Farm to Market 171 in Wichita County.

Gusty high winds and warm temperatures made the flames hard to contain. A number of fire departments from Wichita County assisted in knocking down the flames.

No structures were involved however, the Cameron Gardens Fire Chief told Newschannel 6 that a number of homes were within about half a block of being involved.

The flames are now out but a fire break has been dug around the burned area to try and keep any rekindling from spreading.

Texoma was under a Red Flag Warning for most of Sunday.
