Congressman Mac Thornberry Shares His Comments On VA Scandal

Posted: Updated:
A controversy over scheduling practices at Texas Veterans' Hospitals in Central Texas and San Antonio has spread to the lower Rio Grande Valley of South Texas.

Documents obtained by an Austin newspaper show a former top official at a Veterans Affairs hospital in South Texas told investigators that unreliable tests were substituted for colonoscopies.

A doctor at that hospital told investigators that the closest Va provider who performed colonoscopies was four hours from the South Texas town and the VA didn't want to pay to provide them closer. Congressman Mac Thornberry shared his thoughts on the issue.

"The VA has been getting more money every year to take care of veterans and yet you have things like this and you know their is a deep serious problem in what they do with that money and how they take care of veterans so what ever it takes we've got to get to the bottom of it"

The department of Veterans Affairs is investigating scheduling practices at its hospitals in Texas as part of a nationwide audit of access to care.
