W.F. Man Killed in Officer Involved Shooting

A Wichita Falls police officer is on paid administrative leave following an officer involved shooting Wednesday night.

Police responded to a family disturbance call in the 2000 Block of Gloria Lane after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday night. The incident escalated into an officer involved shooting. Police say the victim, 22-year-old Joshua Powell, did have a weapon on him. That weapon was not a firearm.

At this time, police say they can't release how many times Powell was shot or where on his body.
Officer Stephen Ginger was the first on the scene. His paid administrative leave was effective immediately. Officer Ginger has been with the WFPD for ten years.

Several agencies are involved in the investigation. Powell's body has been sent to Tarrant County for an autopsy. The results of the investigation will be presented to a grand jury in the coming weeks.
