Bellevue VFD Set Fire to Home For Training

Posted: Updated:
The Bellevue Volunteer Fire Department set an old property on fire Sunday evening for training purposes.

Fire officials say the owner of the property wanted it burned dow. Bellevue VFD Fire Chief Mark Hanson told our crew the exercise was meant to familiarize the new firefighters in the department with equipment and scenarios.

"The objective here was to burn the house without burning the garage. The house was completely burnt, but and didn't get any of the major trees so we accomplished everything we set out to do," Hanson said.

Oil, gas, diesel fuel and tree limbs were used to ignite the blaze. It burned for about 30 minutes before it was under control.

Hanson said no dummies were used during this exercise because the house was not safe to enter prior to starting the fire.
