Deadly Accident On Highway 287

A three vehicle accident in the northbound lanes of Highway 287 in Wichita Falls claims the life of a Texoma woman Wednesday afternoon.

Wichita Falls Police said the accident happened at 3:23 p.m. on the Lloyd Ruby Overpass when a white Chevy S-10 pickup truck broke down in the center lane.

The owner of the truck called his wife for help. His wife, 70-year-old, Roberta Gidney of Vernon, Texas drove her Chevy Cavalier to the meet him and parked her car behind his with her hazard lights flashing.

Before Gidney could get out her vehicle and help, she was struck from behind by a semi truck. She was later confirmed dead.

Police also said there was another passenger in the vehicle during the crash. It was the couple’s dog. It was taken into custody by animal services, but no word on its condition.

Police, Firefighter and Emergency crews were able to reopen all lanes of traffic along Highway 287 after 5:00 pm
