Blacksox 17U Open Strong in Mack Qualifier

The Burkburnett Blacksox 17U-Black team opened up their AABC Connie Mack World Series qualifier Thursday with two wins!

First, they handled the 5-Tool Baseball Academy Blackhawks of Amarillo 18-5 in their first game of the day, then they won a wild 11-9 decision of the Oklahoma Athletics in their second game.

In the first game, Westyn Swenson and Zac Kbabra homered as the Blacksox rallied from down 4-3 with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, then kept pouring on the runs for the win.

In the second game, the Blacksox scored in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead, but Oklahoma answered with eight runs in the top of the second to take an 8-1 lead.

The Blacksox responded with one run in the bottom of the inning, then erupted for an eight-run inning of their own in the bottom of the third to retake the lead at 10-8.

The teams traded runs in the fifth and sixth innings to finish out the scoring.

The tournament continues with pool play Friday and bracket play Saturday and Sunday. The 50th Connie Mack World Series will be played August 1-8 at Ricketts Field in Farmington, New Mexico.
