Fond Farewell

WICHITA FALLS, TX - Tears and raw emotion flooded four W.F.I.S.D. schools today as they consolidate and close their doors to over one-hundred years of memories.

All four schools held flag lowering ceremonies to mark times of old, and times to come. These ceremonies gave the community a chance to remember the memories that will be lost as these schools combine.

“Yes it is the end of Alamo as we know it and we’re going to make a new memory,” said Jody Hopson, an Alamo Science Teacher.

Hopson said the ceremony was emotionally moving.

“I’ve prepared for two days to try and not cry,” said Hopson. “I heard myself several times and I will cry several more times today.”

She says that the students will be her most fond memory moving forward.

Alamo and Sam Houston Elementary have served the community for over 100 years each. They will be combining into Zundy Junior High’s facilities, taking on the new Identity of Zundy Elementary School.

Current Zundy students will combine with Barwise Junior High creating the new Barwise Leadership Academy.

“Even though we will all be in new surroundings, the family we made here will always be a big part of

our lives,” said Hopson. “We will take memories, laughter and the families love with us wherever we go.”
