The Texas Blood Institute celebrated 10 years of providing blood for patients in Texoma Thursday night.

After a Wichita Falls hospital's lack of blood for victims in a January 2004 car accident, doctors contacted neighboring blood center, Oklahoma Blood Institute about starting a local center.  Since June of that year, TBI has been the sole provider of every drop of blood needed by patients in the eight medical facilities serving Archer, Baylor, Clay, Foard, Hardeman, Wichita and Wilbarger counties.

Hospitals, businesses and schools sponsor blood drives to ensure patients receive the blood they need. In 2013, a bloodmobile, made it even more convenient for people to donate.  Donors also give at the center located at 3709 Gregory Street.

In celebration of this decade anniversary, Wichita Falls Mayor Glenn Barham  proclaimed June as Texas Blood Institute Month in Wichita Falls.

Texas Blood Institute is a nonprofit, regional blood center. Anyone who is healthy and 16 years of age can typically give blood, and donations can be made every 56 days.
