Senior Safety Checks

Posted: Updated:
Nearly 20 million seniors, ages 65 and older, visit the emergency room each year. Almost a third of the visits were related to injury, many of which were sustained in the home.

More than 45-percent of those could have prevented, according to officials. June is national safety month, and in honor of this, free safety checks will be offered by the Home Instead Senior Care Office in Wichita Falls. Safety checks are recommended at least once a year, according to experts.

“I think our program is really important because it’s not just designed to help clients who are on our services,” said Tiffany Oliver, Home Instead Senior Care Franchise Owner. “This is designed for anyone in the community, any families in the community.”

It’s necessary to inspect dangerous areas of the home, so any injuries can be prevented. Safety checks will help seniors avoid dangers that could threaten their independence. Many safety fixes are easy and affordable. Free home inspections will run through July. For more questions you can contact Tiffany Oliver at (940)-322-4472.
