Teachings from Pop - A Boomer's Journey & Stories That Bind Us

RICHARDSON, Texas, July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- So there are basically 70 million+ boomers in the US today.  The Baby Boom generation, as CNN reported is the largest generation of Americans born in U.S. history.  Boomers are retiring in record numbers each year and yet too few of them are taking the time to write down and share the stories.  One boomer and Iowa native, Don Eggspuehler, hopes to change that trend by releasing his latest book Teachings from Pop - A Boomer's Journey and Stories That Bind Us.

"Have you ever tried to get the attention of today's wired-in kids to explain what it was like to be a boomer growing up in the 1950s?  It's like hitting a brick wall," noted Don from his home in Richardson, Texas. "I wrote Teachings from Pop because I see the rich tradition of passing down stories from one generation to the next – something that was a large part of my growing up -- as almost a lost art in these days of non-stop tweets and texts."

The Wonder Years Meets Little House on the Prairie

Teachings from Pop is a collection of glimpses in time, from the earliest settlers to the hare-brained adventures of kids in the fifties.  Boomers will relate to these stories, as many of their experiences were very similar.  Kids of today will feel more a part of their heritage by reading stories that put them in the middle of the action.

Don Eggspuehler has been capturing and sharing the stories of his life for decades.  He previously published a family memoir, titled Star Benchwarmers, which detailed the many adventures of he and his wife Linda and their family told in juxtaposition to Linda's battle with brain cancer.  For Teachings from Pop Eggspuehler decided to go deeper into his personal history and that of his hometown, Iowa Falls, Iowa to not only capture moments from his childhood but stories of the pioneers and Civil War that had been passed down from his grandfather's generation.

More than just reminiscing about the past, Teachings from Pop transports boomers back to their childhood days, and it's Eggspuehler's hope that this will unleash old memories and stories that they can replay to their kids and grandchildren.
