HAMPTON, Va., July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NASA X, a video program based at NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, has won a prestigious Emmy award from the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

NASA X producers Kevin Krigsvold and Michael Bibbo won the award for "Power and Propulsion" in the category of Informational/Instructional-Program/Special. In the winning entry, NASA X, a television program and vodcast that highlights new and emerging technologies, featured facilities and new methods of power and propulsion that are being developed at NASA's Glenn Research Center, in Cleveland, Ohio.

One segment about solar electric propulsion took viewers on a tour of Glenn's Plum Brook Station's Space Power Facility, explained how fuel cells work and described the intricacies of one type of solar electric propulsion, the Hall thruster. Technologies, such as solar electric propulsion, may some day help NASA send humans to asteroids, Mars and beyond.

The NASA X program, which showcased the work of the NASA Space Technology Mission Directorate's Game Changing Development Program, also included a number of interviews at Glenn and at Langley.

The Emmy award honors excellence in television production in various sectors of the television industry, including entertainment programming, news and documentary shows and sports programming. The awards are presented in various area-specific ceremonies held annually throughout the year.
