Three MSU Football Players Named Pre-Season All-Americans

Midwestern State senior center Shadow Stokes, junior strong safety Marqui Christian and junior return specialist Dominique Williams have been selected to the 26th USA Football Division II Preseason All-America Team announced on Monday.

Stokes, a 6-3, 280 pound senior from Kilgore, Texas, was named a first-team preseason All-America. Christian, a 6-1, 200 pound junior from Spring, Texas, was selected to the squad's second-team, while Williams, a 5-8, 180 pound junior from Houston, Texas/Clements was named to the third-team.

Stokes, the lone junior on last season's All-Lone Star Conference first-team offensive line, was also named second-team All-Super Region 4 on both the Daktronics, Inc., and Don Hansen teams on the O-Line. He started all 10 games at center and his blocking has helped the Mustangs to lead the LSC in rushing the last three seasons.

Christian was the only sophomore selected to the All-LSC first-team in 2013. The strong safety was also a second-team All-Super Region 4 selection on the Daktronics, Inc., and Don Hansen teams. He was chosen to the USAFBN preseason team at linebacker. Christian led MSU with 95 tackles on the season, the most for a Midwestern player in nine seasons. He was a BSN National Defensive Player of the Week against Texas A&M-Commerce and was twice the LSC's Defensive Player of the Week.

Williams was an honorable mention on the All-LSC team in 2013. He earned LSC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after a strong week that included a 68-yard punt return for a touchdown against McMurry. Williams was second in the LSC in punt returns and 19th in Division II with 13.2 yards a return, and was fourth in the conference in kickoff returns at 20.3 yards.

This is the 26th USA College Football Division II Preseason All-America team selected by a national panel consisting of head coaches, sports information directors, members of the Football Writers Association of America, Metropolitan New York Football Writers Association, New England Football Writers Association and Philadelphia Football Writers, pro football scouts plus staff journalists of Lindy's Sports Annuals, The Sports Network and USA Football News.

Stokes and Christian will lead the Mustangs into their season opener on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Memorial Stadium when MSU hosts Missouri S&T.
